Enhancing infection control systems in a leading tertiary Hospital 0 Comments | By admin
Business problem:
Overall Hospital acquired infection rate was significantly higher than global benchmarks.
Higher infection rates were increasing the Average length of stay (ALOS) and affecting patient safety.
There were multiple non compliances in JCI PCI chapter during the mock audits
Solution Approach:
Performed a Hospital wide system audit on infection control practices assessing infection control program infrastructure, Infection control training, Healthcare personnel safety, surveillance and reporting, Hand hygiene, Personal protective equipment (PPE), Respiratory hygiene , environmental cleaning, Device reprocessing.
A new program of staff engagement, internal audit and review mechanism was initiated across hospital based on the findings of the audit
New Audit tool for PPEs was introduced along with hand hygiene monitoring system.
Key Outcome and benefits:
63% reduction in hospital acquired infections.
100% compliance to JCI requirements
45% reduction in infection related events.
IT based system to analyse trends and patterns.
